At the end of 2008, Larry decided to take semi-retirement having been writing on and off since the mid 1960s. Since then, with his wide reputation as an Orchestrator, he has been giving occasional Master Classes with advanced students. At the beginning of 2009 he was asked to Mentor a young, 16 year old composer, Lloyd Coleman, who, whilst still a student at Chethams Music School, had been commissioned to write a large work on the theme of 'Overcoming Adversity' ( a pretty good theme, too). As a partially disabled person himself, he was the perfect choice for such a commission. They have been consulting together since June 2009 and the work must be ready to coincide with the Olympics in 2012.
